Dr Steve Raymond, MBBS FRANZCOG DDU, is a specialist Gynaecologist and Ultrasonologist in private practice in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Dr Raymond’s reputation as a caring medical specialist stretches across Australia and internationally. As the founding medical director of Hunter IVF, Dr Raymond holds appointments at the John Hunter and Newcastle Private Hospitals.
1978
Specialist Training
After graduating from Sydney University in 1978, Dr Raymond completed specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Newcastle. He then spent two years in advanced training in foetal-maternal medicine at the Queen Mother’s Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland.
1987
Reproductive Medicine
He started a private practice upon his return to Newcastle in 1987. At the same time he was appointed as a lecturer in reproductive medicine at the University of Newcastle, spending four years researching the causes and treatment of recurrent miscarriage.
2000
First in Procedures
Dr Raymond helped to establish the first prenatal and ultrasound foetal diagnostic unit in the Newcastle region and was the first in the area to perform procedures such as chorion villus sampling (CVS) and cordocentesis. He is still involved in the training of doctors at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Management of Infertility
In 2001 Dr Raymond decided to move away from obstetrics to focus on other areas of care, particularly the management of infertility. He assisted in the establishment of Hunter IVF and more recently, Newcastle Ultrasound.
He has wide-ranging expertise, especially in:
- Gynaecological care including advanced laparoscopic surgery
- Diagnostic ultrasound in gynaecology, obstetrics and infertility
- Prenatal diagnosis including CVS and amniocentesis
- Infertility and IVF including medical and surgical treatment of male and female infertility.
Our Team
Support and care throughout your treatment
Our team consists of 3 highly experienced sonographers, a practice nurse and two administration staff. They are very professional in their patient care and are an important part of your treatment, providing constant support and day to day advice throughout your treatment.
They’re available every week day to answer your questions, co-ordinate your appointments and advise you on what to expect. Some parts of the treatment journey are more daunting than others, and the nurses are here to help. Our nurse is particularly helpful and supportive for those patients undergoing surgery.
Our nursing and sonographer team have a combined experience of more than 50 years in nursing and fertility treatment, they love nothing more than sharing the good news of a positive pregnancy test, and seeing your family grow
